This book is a fascinating, moving tale about World War 1, from the author of the well known book "The Boy In The Striped Pyjamas". It covers very powerful issues to do with the war in a way that can be understood by children and would, to my mind, be an essential read for any 10-12 year old learning about the war.
Dealing with such issues as Conscientious Objectors and the poor treatment/understanding of soldiers suffering from Shell Shock this isn't your normal story about World War 1. It follows the fortunes of 9 year old Alfie Summerfield as he tries to find out about his father who went to war and hasn't returned. Adventures on the train, chance encounters on the platform of Kings Cross station and even a meeting with the Prime Minister. Gripping!
