Because the book is so old you might discover many, many different book covers for the same story. You parents might even have a copy from when they were young!!

This is is no way a new book. In fact quite a few of your parents may have read this book when they were little! But it is a very, very good story, and the first book to be included due to being recommended by children in my class. Because it is written about the end of the Second World War, and a family's attempt to find their parents, trecking all across Europe, it is most definitely a timeless classic. "The classic tale of a journey through war-torn Europe. Alone and fending for themselves in a Poland devastated by World War Two, Jan and his three homeless friends cling to the silver sword as a symbol of hope. As they travel through Europe towards Switzerland, where they believe they will be reunited with their parents, they encounter many hardships and dangers. This extraordinarily moving account of an epic journey gives a remarkable insight into the reality of a Europe laid waste by war." "Silver sword is a great quick book about war. When you think of war you usually think of fighting and soldiers but this story shows you another part of war that you wouldn’t even start to think of! This book is about what happened to the polish during the 2nd world war and shows you the story of 4 brave children trying to be reunited with their family. It is exciting, fun and interesting to read nd I would highly recommend this book to anyone in year 5 or 6 who likes learning about war."- by Jess. |
